2. Why Should You Rethink Your Physical Space?

  • Physical space planning is a crucial element as we consider the transformational shifts that are taking place in our school and public libraries.
    • Shifts in instructional strategies and student learning styles impact the learning environment.
    • Supports 21st century learning skills that students need to become globally-competitive and college and career ready.
    • Transformation from a traditional library to a more learner centered environment.

Library Marketing Plan (from Jennifer Lagarde, School Library Marketing 101: It's About Students, Not Stuff)

    • Set goals for your library physical space using this tool.
    • Teaching Standard: creating physical spaces within the library that promote 21st century skills (collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking).
