Secondary LMS PD Oct 2016

Welcome Slide

AGENDA:

Future Ready Librarians

  • Future Ready Librarians is an expansion of the Future Ready Schools initiative aimed at raising awareness among district and school leaders about the valuable role librarians can play in supporting the Future Ready goals of their school and district.

  • Guiding questions for Future Ready Librarians:

    • How can librarians and libraries support Future Ready schools?

    • How can librarians and libraries become more Future Ready?

  • We can connect our LMS professional learning and BCPS school library initiatives to the Future Ready Librarians framework.

Supporting the School Progress Plan (SPP)

 Future Ready Librarians alignment:

 BCPS Secondary LMS Evaluation alignment:

  • Domain 1  Planning and Preparation  -  1c. Supporting Instructional Goals

  • Domain 4  Professional Responsibility - 4d. Participating in a Professional Community

1. Examine your own school's SPP to identify Key Actions which you can support as library media specialist and through the library media program.

  •  List at least one Key Action for Reading, Math & Climate in column 1 on the Supporting SPP Planning/Monitoring document.

  •  Brainstorm strategies to support the Key Actions you identified--  as the LMS (Column 2) and in collaboration with other teachers/staff as an Instructional Partner (Column 3).  Include ideas for monitoring to gather evidence of impact of these actions. (Column 3). Think "outside the box" to make innovative connections.

2. Rotate to discuss and share strategies for Reading, Math & Climate on chart paper; take your device in Tablet mode and markers.

3. Share take-aways with whole group.

Next steps:

  • Check out the aggregated responses from our PD brainstorming charts.

  • Add strategies to your own     Supporting SPP Planning/Monitoring chart.

  • Share your plans with administrators and teachers. Although these parallel goals may not be included in the SPP, this year and you may not be a member of the School Progress team, your leaders and teachers should know that you are working to support SPP goals through your practice and program.

  • Document your actions and their impact with evidence throughout the year.

  • Share impact and evidence with your school community.

Transforming School Library Spaces

Is your Library Media Center ...

A dull, old-fashioned, cluttered, empty, unwelcoming place
where "no one wants to go"?

A modern, vibrant, functional space designed to
engage today's students and support 21st century learning?

How will you create a more modern, learner-centered Library which is the learning hub of the school?

TIME TO TAKE ACTION!

1. Why this is important.

2. Insight and inspiration from some BCPS MS/HS LMS who will showcase their library spaces:

3. Review the STEPS, TIPS & RESOURCES on the Transforming School Library Spaces page.

4. Begin developing an Action Plan. Collaborate with colleagues to share ideas, photos, questions in the new Library Transformations small group in Secondary Librarians' Edmodo.

5. ODL Library Media staff will contact you to arrange for a one hour Library site visit.

  • Be prepared to talk us through your Action Plan and describe actions you have taken to date, including weeding efforts.

  • We will begin soon by visiting Library spaces we have not seen recently.
