Lesson Planning with Building Blocks of Effective Instruction
At the January 2017 PD session:
-
A majority of LMS rated own level of skill for planning effective learner-centered instruction as Proficient or Advanced.
-
Together we analyzed a model lesson plan based on Building Blocks of Effective Instruction criteria.
-
Each LMS analyzed of one of their own library lessons based on these criteria in order to make revisions and improve the lesson.
Today we will apply Building Blocks of Effective Instruction criteria in order to plan a learner-centered library lesson.

SCENARIO A teacher whose students are often engaged in reading about and discussing current events* has asked you to provide instruction on fake news. The teacher has identified this as a learning need for students, given the proliferation of fake news online and in social media, and students' lack of skills for judging whether information they find there is trustworthy. You start outlining an introductory lesson using the Library Lesson Plan template and Building Blocks of Effective Instruction.
*This could apply to classes in ELA, Social Studies, Science, or other content areas.
