Leadership for Library Media Specialists

Essential Question:  How can we enhance our leadership skills as library media specialists?

Goal:  Participants will apply knowledge of leadership styles to authentic leadership opportunities and interactions through role-playing and reflection.

• What school-based issues keep you up at night?

• What do you think keeps your principal up at night?

B. The 8 Leadership Archetypes

C. Self-identification & Leadership Dynamics

 
What type of leader are you?  

• Use the 8 archetypes to identify your own dominant leadership style and your principal's dominant leadership style.

• Role-play with a partner to explore leadership dynamics for authentic scenarios.

D. Leadership Opportunities

Reflection: 2017-18 Collection Development Plan

• Reflect independently on the experience of sharing your CD plan with your principal as a leadership opportunity. 

• Make notes and share with your table group. Then select one group member's story to share with the whole group.

Leadership in Practice

• How could you connect your learning about leadership styles to the issues that keep you and your principal up at night?
