Summer Reading

Essential Question:  How can we support student literacy by promoting and providing summer reading opportunities?
Goal:  Participants will understand their role in promoting summer reading and student participation in the BCPL Summer Reading Challenge.

  • School librarians will NOT register students in school due to student data privacy restrictions.

 

BCPS Summer Reading Resources & Initiatives

  • Check out 10 books to each student for the summer to support literacy and equitable access. 

  • Promote participation & inform families using resources on our Summer Reading wiki page
    Twitter, other school communication channels.  

  • Host School Library Summer Hours. Collaborate with public library branch staff. 
  • Ensure that students know how to use their Student Accounts.

  • Remind students about Destiny eBooks and BCPS Digital Content.

  • Request a SNEAKS costume for your school-based kickoff event by May 18.
