A day of reflection, collaboration and professional learning for all elementary and secondary library media specialists to grow and refine their practice in preparation for the next school year. Participants will explore resources, tools and strategies for planning with instructional partners and facilitating meaningful library media instruction in a learner-centered environment.

AASL Standards for Learners Overview

 

Essential Question:  
How is the AASL Standards Framework for Learners organized and what are the key terms?

Goal:  Review the structure of the AASL Standards Framework for Learners and key terminology in order to apply these to ongoing collaborative discussion and analysis.

Essential Question: 
What does student learning for each AASL Competency look like in Grades 2, 5, 8, 10, & 12?
 

Goals:  Library media specialists will reflect on practice and collaborate with colleagues in order to:

  STEP 1: Connect examples from previous instructional experiences to the AASL Competencies.

  STEP 2: Create Benchmarks describing how students will demonstrate Competencies across grade levels. 

  STEP 3: Share Grade Level Benchmarks for the 6 Shared Foundations and 4 Domains.

 

Resources:

  • LMP staff will review the process and model for the Shared Foundation ENGAGE. 
  • Use the detailed Unpack Directions (on handout) to identify your groups/locations and complete STEPS 1-3 for your assigned Shared Foundation.
