Info:
- UPDATE: 2014-15 SLO Dates - Teacher SLOs are to be submitted for approval to principals on or before October 10th. Principals will have until October 24th to approve SLOs. *These dates wereprovided to ODL on Aug 7th and are subject to change; your principal will give you dates.
Resources and Samples:
Writing SLOs:
Elementary LMS will need to write one SLO aligned with a Principal's Goal for the school, and one SLO aligned with Content (K-5 Library Media Curriculum). Today we will work collaboratively in order to begin planning for writing Elementary Library Media SLOs.
Use the steps outlined below to get started! Refer to the Resources and Samples above for guidance.
- Open a copy of the SLO Template 2014-15 as you work. *This template has been revised since last year by the Office of Staff Relations.
- Statement of Outcome:
- Identify an AASL Indicator that is substantially coverered in a grade-level BCPS Library Media Curriculum AND clearly aligned with grade-level CCSS ELA-Literacy Standard(s).
- Identify the corresponding Indicator(s)/Objective(s) from the Maryland School Library Media State Curriculum PreK-8.
- Refer to Standards for the 21st Century Learner in Action, pp. 19-39 to locate the grade-level Benchmark(s) for the AASL indicator you chose. Benchmarks are competencies to be achieved by students in primary grades by Grade 2 and by students in intermediate grades by Grade 5.
- Write your Statement of Outcome based on the aligned standards and Benchmark you identified.
- Rationale: Briefly explain why this outcome is important for students at this grade level. List the aligned AASL, MSC, and CCSS standards/indicators/objectives/benchmarks.
- Students: Identify the grade level and student population; Office of Staff Relations recommended you use one class this first year.
- Interval of Instruction: A school year, semester, quarter, or unit are acceptable intervals.
- Target(s) & Evidence:
- Example starter: By [interval of instruction] _____% of students in [specify student population] will demonstrate progress toward mastery of [benchmark(s)], as measured by [scoring tool] (attached) and as outlined below: [refer to examples].
- Evidence used to measure student learning and growth over time will include [specify evidence such as formative assessments, artifacts, portfolios, etc.]
- Refer to the RESOURCES and SAMPLES above to help you complete the remaining sections of the SLO form.
- Please consider SHARING SLOs you have created with your colleagues. Keep in mind that some SLOs will have been created to support principal’s SLOs, which may vary from school to school.
- Save your file to your H: drive with this filename format: Lastname_SLO_Gr#.docx
Name any associated documents (such as scoring rubrics): Lastname_SLO_Gr#_title.docx or .pdf See Kelly’s Sample SLO files (already in the folder) for examples.
- Upload your SLO files to this folder: Elementary SLO Samples *Request access if you are not already a member of the bcpslis wiki. Kelly can grant you permission to upload files to the Secondary SLO Samples folder.
